Tattoos
on the Mind
Tattoos are very popular today. 36% of Americans between the
age of 18 and 29 have at least one tattoo. Of the ones that get them 17% regret
having them. It does not have the same
association as it did when I was a kid. Tattoos were looked at as a bad thing
that could only be found on people that had traveled to various parts of the
world where it was more main stream. It was assumed that only bad men had them
and women having them was unheard of. Today it is an art form covering every
topic. For some people tattoos cover most of their body. Why people put certain
tattoos on their body usually has to do with what they have passion for.
Norman Vincent Peale of the Power of Positive Thinking fame
told a story about the time he went to Hong Kong China. As he walked the
streets there, he came across a tattoo parlor. Looking at all the samples in
the window he noticed one that said “Born to Lose”. He walked in and pointed to
that tattoo. The man there said “Take your shirt off”. Mr. Peale said no I
don’t want a tattoo. I was wondering do people really get this “Born to Lose”
tattooed to their chest? The shop owner said “yes some do”. Mr. Peale asked
why? The tattoo parlor owner pointed to his head and said “it is tattooed to
their mind first”.
What is tattooed to your mind? Is it something positive or
something negative? I have seen a TV show where these two guys walk around
their town looking for people with bad tattoos. They then offer to put a new
tattoo over the bad one making something beautiful out of something ugly. Maybe
it’s time for some of you to turn that old ugly tattoo in your mind into
something beautiful. Tattoos are considered permanent. With the help of a
Master, you can get to a point of never having to look at that old ugly tattoo
again. You have to get it covered with something new so it completely makes the
old tattoo disappear never to be seen again. That’s what the Master Jesus
Christ does for us. He covers our old ugly tattoos of fear, anger, shame and
sin with his blood never to be seen again.
