Cultivate Good

In 1 Peter the Bible says to snub evil and cultivate good. This got me thinking about how do we cultivate good? According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary cultivating means to come to have gradually by absorbing, adopting, embracing, gaining, attaining, achieving, fostering, and nourishing. So, It looks like we need to absorb good things like sunshine and good thoughts, adopt good habits like reading the Bible daily, embrace Jesus as your Lord and Savior, gain knowledge of the Bible, attain a reputation for doing good, achieve control of your tongue, foster others that need help and nourish everyone around you with love and positive words. These things will cultivate good. If you do these things, you will have a life worth embracing. If you do these things, you will please God and create peace.

Whoever wants to embrace life
and see the day fill up with good,
Here’s what you do:
Say nothing evil or hurtful;
Snub evil and cultivate good;
run after peace for all you’re worth.
God looks on all this with approval,
listening and responding well to what he’s asked;
But he turns his back
on those who do evil things.     1 Peter 3:10-12 MSG
